2A12 AL alloy forgings

2A12 AL alloy forgings

Composition characteristics: Aluminum-copper alloy (Cu content typically 3.5–4.5%), with small amounts of manganese (Mn) and magnesium (Mg) as auxiliary elements. It is a heat-treatable aluminum alloy whose strength is mainly enhanced via precipitation hardening. It features high strength, good fatigue resistance, and moderate corrosion resistance; corrosion resistance can be improved with surface treatment.

Application area: Aerospace structures (fuselage, wing skins), high-strength pressure vessels, railway and automotive components, defense equipment, and other structural parts requiring a high strength-to-weight ratio.

Property Category Description
Forging Performance Good hot workability, but lower than that of aluminum-magnesium alloys; cracks tend to form if hot working parameters are improperly controlled. It boasts excellent formability after solution heat treatment.
Post-forming Treatment Supplied in annealed (O state) or solution-treated condition; its strength is predominantly obtained via heat treatment (precipitation hardening/aging).
Achieved Properties High strength, good fatigue resistance, moderate corrosion resistance (improvable with surface treatment), good machinability, and reasonable weldability. Widely used in aerospace structural applications due to its high strength-to-weight ratio.
